Movement Update 23 July 2022

  • by

Since the last update in March, one of our three vultures has moved, while two have remained on their wintering grounds.

First, migratory EVs often remain on their wintering ground in their first spring, possibly only returning to the breeding grounds at the age of two or more. Arys, one of the male EVs has actually bucked this trend and to our surprise has migrated north back into Uzbekistan (see image below). He started moving north in June 2022, travelling through Pakistan and Afghanistan. He stopped briefly in northern Afghanistan, before moving into Uzbekistan where he has now remained in the Tian Shan mountains between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

Meanwhile, the other two birds, Timur and Anya, have both remain in the same locations. Anya in the Rajasthan desert and Timur in Yemen.
