Fieldwork for Summer 2022

  • by

We have great news this year. OSME and OBC have both agreed to fund the Central Asian Vulture Project again this year. This is on top of the support from the Hawk Conservancy, UK.

The field team will be visiting the deserts in central Uzbekistan again to tag 5 more Egyptian Vultures. This will give us a total of 8 birds and allow us to have a robust understanding of the migration routes for this important Uzbek vulture population.

5 Ornitela Tags arrived and have been tested. They will be used to track the movements of the vultures.

Valentine Soldatov visited known Vulture breeding sites in May and June to confirm where nests were active. He found several active nests. To the right you can see one of the chicks found.

The Hawk Conservancy have also donated some leg rings so we can ring any extra birds that are not satellite tagged. Hopefully bird watchers and biologists will spot these rings and report them when they are on the move.
